Creating a video game that provides a fun way for users to discover a new product and linking that product to the concept of wild adventures.
A game in a cross-browser web environment
The difficulty lies in knowing which technology to use to create a video game. The chosen technology has to be clearly intended for the web environment and must feature cross-browser compatibility as it will need to be playable on all the main browsers.
The game also needs to work on smartphones, so it must have a version that is compatible with these handheld devices.
We used standard technology written in HTML5 language, elements and animations were created in CSS3 along with jQuery libraries, and the Framework was designed in open source Phaser, giving us the freedom to enable the game’s features to interact as necessary.
When creating the project, gamification was our chosen solution. This meant using the mechanics of play to boost motivation, concentration and engagement. In the game, the user is required to prove their skills so as to gradually reveal the product’s description and novel features. As the player passes more levels, the game becomes more difficult – it gets faster and there are more obstacles to face.
The idea is to unite the gaming experience with brand loyalty whilst presenting a new product.
Creating the interactive layer and the game’s animations was extremely interesting. It gave us so much freedom to design the game.
